Romantic England
England

From May 25 to June 9, 2018, FHU professor Dr. John McLaughlin will lead a tour of England that offers a mix of big-city excitement and rustic-village charm. The trip will include three days in London plus visits to Oxford and York, as well as hiking and walking in two of England’s favorite outdoor areas, the Lake District and the Peak District. The group will explore picturesque villages, wander beautiful gardens, and have afternoon tea at the grand Chatsworth House, which has been featured in a popular adaptation of Jane Austen's Pride and Prejudice.

FHU friends and alumni are invited to participate in the trip alongside current FHU students with a GPA of 2.50 or higher. Because of the active nature of this trip, travelers must be able to walk considerable distances, often over uneven surfaces

The trip’s cost of $3,400 includes round-trip airfare, lodging expenses, breakfasts, ground transportation, travel insurance, and admission to all sites in the trip's itinerary.

The itinerary will include visits to historic sites associated with British Romantic writers, such as Jane Austen’s home in Chawton and William Wordsworth’s Dove Cottage nestled in the Lake District. The trip complements Dr. McLaughlin’s spring 2018 course, Romantic Poetry and Prose, which will focus on the presentation of nature and landscape in British Romantic poetry and fiction. The course is not required to participate in the trip.
